Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the fitness of Kieran Tierney.
The 27-year-old has been out of action since sustaining a hamstring injury during Scotland’s last gasp exit from Euro 2024 at the hands of Slovakia. He has not been involved in any of Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures in the USA or in London.
And now Arteta has admitted it will be some time before he returns. When asked about the fitness of Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu, the Spaniard revealed they “will be a few weeks behind still”.
Tierney’s future is almost certain to lie away from the Emirates Stadium once he has recovered. The Scottish full back spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad and has fallen behind Oleksandr Zinchenko, Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber, Jakub Kiwior and new signing Riccardo Calafiori in the pecking order at left back.
