A journalist has reported that Arsenal is willing to invest up to £60 million in a highly regarded striker, as manager Mikel Arteta explores options to enhance the team’s attacking lineup.
Arteta is seeking a forward to complement Havertz at Arsenal. The club has been in pursuit of a new striker since the onset of the summer transfer window.
Earlier this summer, Arsenal made an effort to acquire Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, a move also pursued by Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, the Slovenian prodigy opted to stay with his current team and signed a contract extension.
Despite Havertz concluding his first season at the Emirates Stadium with an impressive tally of 14 goals and seven assists in 51 matches across all competitions, Arteta is still looking for an additional striking partner.
A highly productive new striker has been regarded as the crucial element missing from Arteta’s strategy, with former Arsenal player Bacary Sagna emphasizing the necessity for a target man similar to ex-player Olivier Giroud.
“Arsenal must enhance their strength and adopt a more aggressive approach in their attacking play,” the former defender stated to Paddy Power (as reported by The Metro).
“This season, they faced challenges in scoring goals. Acquiring a genuine striker – a classic number nine – would be beneficial.
While Arsenal is performing well, there is room for improvement in their crossing game; they generally maintain possession effectively, but there are times when they need to increase their crossing frequency.
“I have confidence in Gabriel Jesus, provided he remains injury-free, but they still require additional support.
” I would recommend someone like Olivier Giroud, a physically strong player who can effectively hold the ball and assist the team during challenging moments.”
“They need a player who can position himself in the box and contribute both offensively and defensively.”
Arsenal is said to have a casual interest in Ivan Toney from Brentford for a potential position, while Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon has also caught their eye this summer.
According to journalist Steve Kay, who spoke on KS1TV (as reported by The Boot Room), Arsenal is willing to invest up to £60 million to acquire Gyokeres from Sporting.
This statement was made in the context of discussing their interest in Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
Kay remarked, “If he (Guimaraes) were to become available, much like Gyokeres, at a price range of £50-60 million, I believe he would be a target for us.
However, given the asking price, it seems they have effectively declined our interest.”
The contract of the Sweden international features an £86 million release clause, and last season, the “unplayable” striker netted 43 goals in just 50 matches across all competitions.
