Manchester United are on the brink of wrapping up the signings of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
The defenders arrived in England on Monday and were driven to United’s Carrington training base where they were understood to have undergone medicals. United reached an agreement with Bayern to sign both players at the weekend.
Baring any last-minute snags, they are poised to become United’s third and fourth signings of the summer respectively. Both could make their debut as soon as Friday’s Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford.
The Reds will be itching to make a winning start to the new league campaign after being beaten in the weekend’s Community Shield clash with Manchester City on penalties. Alejandro Garnacho’s late effort was cancelled out by an even later strike from Bernardo Silva.
Elsewhere, United are continuing to be linked with a plethora of different names ahead of the transfer window closing in just over a fortnight’s time. They remain determined to add a holding midfielder to their ranks and Burnley’s Sander Berge is a player who is continuing to attract a lot of attention.
