New Arsenal transfer priority now clear for Mikel Arteta after huge announcement

Mikel Arteta and Edu could be forced to rethink their Arsenal transfer priorities just days before the 2024/25 season commences. The Gunners have already strengthened defensively with David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori arriving in permanent deals and now bolstering their midfield appears the priority.

Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino has been at the centre of Arsenal transfer talks over the last few weeks with multiple reports suggesting there is hope a deal can be agreed in the region of £25million over the coming days. With Emile Smith Rowe sealing a £34million move to Fulham, it would be excellent business by the Gunners if they can remain at a profit even with the addition of his replacement.

Alongside Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah could also seal a permanent departure with Marseille showing a strong interest in the striker. If Nketiah does depart, unlike the Smith Rowe scenario, a replacement may not be needed with Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard all capable of playing through the middle.

Reiss Nelson is another Hale End graduate that could be moved on, with more pure profit being acquired as a result. Leicester City showed a keen interest early into the summer window, but they have now moved on to other targets with Wolves reviving their interest certainly possible after they lost Pedro Neto to Chelsea.
