Arsenal predicted XI vs Lyon as Riccardo Calafiori finally makes debut but Jurrien Timber out

After three long months, the return of Premier League football is almost here. After taking Manchester City to the wire for a second consecutive season, Arsenal will be dying to get over the line this time.

But first they have one more pre-season friendly to navigate against Lyon. It’s a final chance for many of Arsenal’s perceived fringe players to force their way into Mikel Arteta’s first team plans, while some of the stars who went far in the Euros will get crucial minutes in their legs.

Arteta is always competitive though and will want to field a side that he feels can win the game and build momentum ahead of a tough start to the season.

Goalkeeper – David Raya

Mikel Arteta was pretty cold when asked about Aaron Ramsdale’s situation after the win against Leverkusen on Wednesday. If that’s anything to go by it seems that David Raya will be given the nod here again.

Right back – Ben White

Despite all the talk of Arsenal’s defensive depth, Ben White has once again found himself the club’s only fit right back. It doesn’t seem that Jurrien Timber will be ready for this one, so expect the England international to share it with youngster Josh Nichols.

Centre back – William Saliba

Gabriel is looking sharp and ready to start the season. There’s an argument that Jakub Kiwior should get a nod, but expect the Brazilian to start here.

Mikel Arteta seemed to hint that Riccardo Calafiori had a chance of being involved against Lyon. Hopefully this will be the chance to finally see the new signing in an Arsenal shirt.
