Arsenal could still look elsewhere to bolster their midfield options amid delay in agreeing a transfer for Mikel Merino.
Talks have continued over the last few days though, and while progress is being made, which has seen some reports suggest it could be wrapped up in the next 48 hours, there is a delay over the deal structure. A package in the region of £25million has been mooted, with Arsenal clearly feeling capable of signing Merino on the cheap as his contract expires next summer.
The 28-year-old is said to be very keen on joining and playing under Mikel Arteta, though no agreement has been reached yet. Despite that, Merino was left out of Sociedad’s squad to face Union Berlin in a pre-season friendly, while Liverpool transfer target Martin Zubimendi was named on the bench.
