Man United have two iconic shirt numbers ready for Matthijs de Ligt and next signing

Manchester United are still working around the clock to fine-tune their squad for this season. Deals for Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee were rubber-stamped last month – costing around £90million combined – with further signings on the radar for Erik ten Hag and key figures behind the scenes.

Ineos remain ‘open’ to bringing in up to three centre-backs in total this summer. Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite are two concrete targets after Yoro was sworn in – with The Toffees even rejecting two bids from United for their England U21s international.

De Ligt is thought to have verbally agreed personal terms. However, due to a gap in valuation and United striving to generate funds through sales, that proposed move has stalled over recent weeks as the club also eye up a push for Bayern teammate, right-back Noussair Mazraoui.
