Arsenal are close to landing their second big signing of the summer transfer window according to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have moved quickly after the Euros ended to make sure they land new players.
The signing of Riccardo Calafiori was completed last week and since then, attentions have turned to adding players in midfield and attack.
As we already know, Arsenal have agreed terms with Mikel Merino and he is now simply waiting for a deal to be done between both clubs.
And in further good news for Arsenal fans on the Merino front, Fabrizio Romano has now suggested that the transfer is pretty much close to being completed.
Arsenal inching towards deal to sign Mikel Merino
Speaking on his YouTube channel last night, Romano has confirmed that Arsenal are now very close to signing Merino and part of the deal is already closed.
“Arsenal are now expected to close in the next days the agreement with Real Sociedad. It’s already closed, because the verbal exchange has already started then it’s going to be important to discuss payment structure, payment terms,” Romano said.
“So Arsenal are getting there for Mikel Merino. We can’t say here we go yet. But we can say that Arsenal are advancing well for Mikel Merino.”
Why Arsenal want Mikel Merino
Merino has apparently stopped even entertaining approaches from other clubs now and that is good news for Arsenal.
Arsenal fans now, then, will wonder just why their club have pushed so hard for the Spaniard.
On the surface, it seems obvious. Merino is a deep lying midfielder who will free Declan Rice up to play further up the pitch as he did last season at times.
That in itself is a big draw for Mikel Arteta and shows that he’ll need to do little work in getting Merino’s buy in.
Arsenal, then, look like they’ve strengthened once again in a key area here.
