Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia is not expected to be available for selection until October.
The 24-year-old left back has not played for United since May 2023 due to two rounds of knee surgery and he is continuing his rehabilitation at the club’s Carrington training complex.
United expected Malacia to be back in January and terminated the loan of left back Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham in anticipation of Malacia’s return. However, the Dutchman suffered a setback.
United manager Erik ten Hag said Malacia is “in a good place” but suggested he would not be match-fit for another two months.
“He is now in a good place,” Ten Hag assured, “but he is not here because I only took players who could play games or be available for team training.
