Unai Simon has insisted he will not try and influence Nico William’s decision about his future as he continues to be linked with a mega-money move to Arsenal. The 22-year-old was one of the standout performers of this summer’s European Championships and scored the opening goal against England in the final to help Spain secure just a fourth European title in their history.
His form at this summer’s Championships saw him pick up where he left at club level with Bilbao, as he scored eight goals and provided 19 assists across all competitions last season as Ernesto Valverde’s side won the Copa del Rey and secured Europa League qualification.
As a result, Williams, who has been on Bilbao’s books since 2013, has been linked with summer moves to both Arsenal and Barcelona. However, Simon, who started all six of Spain’s games at the Euros, has admitted he won’t put pressure on Williams to stay at the Estadio de San Mames.
