Manchester United are set to add current Lillestrom manager Andreas Georgson to Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff as a set-piece coach.
United could activate a buyout clause in the contract with the Norwegian side that would see the 42-year-old leave the club after just eight months to take up a role at Old Trafford. Reports in Norway have suggested United will pay around £280,000 to extract Georgson from his contract.
The Swedish coach took up the job with Lillestrom after spending the first half of last season as a set-piece coach at Southampton, where he was appointed by their director of football Jason Wilcox. United have beefed up Ten Hag’s backroom staff this summer and Wilcox, now technical director at Old Trafford, is thought to be behind the move for Georgson.
When confirming the appointment of Georgson at St Mary’s, Wilcox said: “Andreas has an excellent understanding of the game model we’re building here, in which set-pieces play an important role.
