AFC Bournemouth defender Illya Zabarnyi has signed a new five-year contract with the club, ending speculation about a potential move to Arsenal.
The 21-year-old Ukrainian international had been linked to the Gunners, who had sent scouts to watch him play at Euro 2024. However, Zabarnyi has chosen to commit his future to Bournemouth, signing a deal that will keep him at the Vitality Stadium until 2029.
Shortly after signing the new long-term contract, Zabarnyi expressed his excitement in an interview, stating, “I’m so happy to be here. I’m really enjoying it; it’s a beautiful town and a really exciting project.”
He also praised the club’s achievements last season, saying, “We achieved a record points total, but we can do more. It’s a really great place to be, and I’m pleased to extend my stay.”
Arsenal had been hoping to secure a deal for Zabarnyi, but their interest has now been rebuffed. The Gunners will have to look elsewhere to strengthen their defense, while Bournemouth can celebrate retaining one of their most promising young players.
