Arsenal are keeping a close eye on one of the best midfield talents in the world.
The Gunners are expected to make a few significant additions to their squad in this window. They need top-quality players to close the gap between themselves and Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar are hard at work behind the scenes at the Emirates, and they have been linked with plenty of names.
A new midfielder is expected to be high on the agenda, but Arsenal may have to offload someone in that area before they can strengthen it.
Arsenal eyeing a move for Joao Neves and two other midfielders
Arsenal don’t have too many options in the middle of their park.
Declan Rice is a guaranteed starter – either in defensive midfield or as a number eight. Jorginho is the alternative for the deeper role, while Thomas Partey is still available as well.
With Albert Sambi Lokonga and Mohamed Elneny both gone, Arsenal should be looking to sign at least one new midfielder in this window.
But, there is a problem.
However, if Arsenal do manage to find a buyer for Partey, they will almost definitely sign a new player in his position, and the report reveals three midfielders they have been closely following.
Real Sociedad duo Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino are two of them, but the most exciting name on the list has to be Joao Neves.
The Benfica star, still only 19 years old, is one of the best midfield talents in the world, and he is destined for a big move in this window. Arsenal have scouted Neves for months and are said to be interested in signing him this summer.
However, the teenager’s release clause is set at €120 million, which is about £100 million (Ben Jacobs). That complicates things for potential buyers.
