PREMIER LEAGUE NEW BOYS EXPRESS INTEREST IN £50M ARSENAL STAR

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale may be on the move, as reports suggest Premier League newcomers Southampton are preparing a bid for the shot-stopper.

Ramsdale, who is currently serving as Jordan Pickford’s understudy in the England squad.

The Saints, having returned to the Premier League, are reportedly seeking a top-tier, experienced goalkeeper and have identified Ramsdale as a prime candidate. Ramsdale, who has lost his No. 1 spot at Arsenal to David Raya, is eager to secure first-team football, making Southampton’s interest particularly appealing.

Ramsdale was recently spotted in the Southampton end at the Championship Play-Off final at Wembley, supporting his former Bournemouth teammate David Brooks, who was on loan at the Saints last term. This has fueled speculation about a potential move.

Arsenal, however, would require a significant transfer fee for Ramsdale, likely close to the £30 million they paid Sheffield United for his services in 2021.

Manager Mikel Arteta has expressed concerns about the club’s compliance with financial regulations, indicating that a cash deal for Ramsdale could be beneficial for their summer transfer activities.

If no club meets Arsenal’s asking price for the 26-year-old, a loan deal might be considered, with the hope that his performances could increase his future transfer value. Southampton are believed to favour a loan arrangement.

Previously linked with a move to Newcastle, Ramsdale’s prospects there have dimmed due to their failure to qualify for the Champions League and financial constraints. Arsenal, in the meantime, has been linked with potential replacements for Ramsdale, including Wolves’ Dan Bentley and Espanyol’s Joan Garcia.

Ramsdale will be on the bench this evening as England aims to secure their first major trophy since 1966, facing Spain in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin.
