England are through to the final of the Euro 2024 after a 2-1 comeback against the Netherlands in Dortmund
Arsenal supporters have called for Ollie Watkins to be signed after his England heroics against the Netherlands.
The Aston Villa star scored England’s winning goal as they defeated the Netherlands 2-1 in the Euro 2024 semi-final after a sensational comeback, booking a place in the final. Gareth Southgate’s side will face Spain on Sunday after reaching back-to-back European Championships final.
Netherlands’ Xavi Simons scored the opening goal in the seventh minute before England were awarded a penalty. Denzel Dumfries was adjudged to have fouled Harry Kane ‘recklessly.’
The England captain made no mistake from the penalty shot and later made way for match-winner Watkins. The Villa star netted his first goal in the tournament in the 90th minute.
Speaking after the game, Watkins said: “Unbelievable. I’ve been waiting for that moment for weeks. It’s taken a lot of hard work to get to where I am now. I’m grateful I got the opportunity and I grabbed it with both hands and I’m delighted.
“I swear on my life, on my kids’ lives, I said to Cole Palmer ‘We’re coming on and you’re going to set me up’ and that’s why I was so happy with Coley, I knew as soon as he got the ball he was going to play me. You’ve got to be greedy, touch and shoot and when I see it going into the bottom corner it’s the best feeling ever.
