David Hancko has already given Manchester United a boost amid reports that a move for the centre-back is being ‘considered’. The Feyenoord defender has reportedly captured Erik ten Hag’s side’s interest but may prove to be too expensive.
The Slovakian was part of his country’s side that was narrowly beaten by England in the UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 clash earlier this month and it has emerged on Tuesday, via The Athletic, that United are ‘considering’ a move for the defender. Reports suggest Feyenoord value the 26-year-old between £21-42m, a price United may deem to be too high for a player not yet proven in a top European league..
United had to deal with a depleted left side of defence for much of last season as Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez nursed injuries. As a result Hancko, a utility defender who can play as a left centre-back and left fullback may be the answer to Ten Hag’s problems if the same injury crisis were to occur again.
The defender was part of new Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s squad during his tenure at the Eredivisie club but is not expected to follow his former manager to Anfield. The fact Andrew Robertson, Joe Gomez, and Kostas Tsimikas are under contract for at least the next season is probably why, with the Reds well stocked in defence.
Hancko has alreayd given United a boost by dismissing links to Liverpool, saying earlier this summer: “I have spoken to him (Slot) a few times since the end of the season, but I don’t think they are looking for a player in my position, so I don’t think a transfer to Liverpool will happen.
