The Arsenal forward has been chosen to represent his country in this summer’s tournament by manager Dorival Junior, alongside his club teammate, Gabriel Magalhães.
While Magalhães watched from the bench agaisnt Mexico, Martinelli started and made his mark by scoring a goal, contributing to Brazil’s dramatic win in Texas, with Endrick netting a stoppage-time winner.
Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira opened the scoring early on, before Martinelli extended Brazil’s lead after halftime. However, Mexico quickly responded with two goals, including one in the 92nd minute. Yet, Endrick, who is set to join Real Madrid this summer, secured victory for Brazil.
Arsenal fans were thrilled with Martinelli’s performance, while Brazil supporters were delighted with their team’s morale-boosting win ahead of the Copa America.
After the match, Martinelli took to Instagram to share his thoughts, expressing his pride in wearing the Brazil shirt.
In the comments section, he received praise from his teammates, including Magalhães, who hailed him as “bravo,” and Endrick, who remarked, “You play a lot,” while Yan Couto called him an “Ace.”
Last season, Martinelli managed six Premier League goals. However, his inclusion in Brazil’s Copa America squad presents an opportunity for him to rediscover his form ahead of the new Premier League season in August.
