MURCIA. The Alcaraz Team, the group behind rising tennis star Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, has established itself as a successful organization that continues to evolve while maintaining over half of its personnel from the Murcia region. Out of the eleven-member team, six hail from this area.
The recent addition of Samuel López Jareño to the squad elevates the number of professionals surrounding the current ATP No. 3 and 17-time ATP title winner, including four Grand Slam victories. López, based at the Ferrero Tennis Academy in Villena, has been collaborating with Alcaraz for some time and took on the role of his official coach during the tournament in Rotterdam that the young Murcian triumphed in. He replaces veteran Antonio Martínez Cascales, who previously guided Juan Carlos Ferrero and occasionally worked with Alcaraz.
In the absence of Juan Carlos Ferrero, Alcaraz’s chief coach since before his transition to professionalism, López took charge of Alcaraz’s debut in the Netherlands.
López and Ontinyent’s Valencia native serve as the two coaches for the player aiming to regain the ATP No. 1 ranking, while their physical trainer, Albert Lledó, is also from Alicante, alongside psychologist Isabel Balaguer from Alzira.
Additionally, five other team members are from the Murcia region. This includes Carlos’s brother Álvaro, also a tennis player, who supports his training as a sparring partner and provides crucial emotional support—being three and a half years older and sharing hotel rooms. The team also features two physiotherapists, Yecla’s Juanjo Moreno and Fran Rubio, physical trainer Alejandro Sánchez, and doctor Juanjo López.
Coordinating Carlos Alcaraz’s day-to-day activities on and off the court is his representative, Albert Molina from Barcelona.
