Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto tonight made use of the opportunity to lavish deserved praise on teammate Fermín López.
As much, of course, comes fresh off an outing to remember for the young Spaniard.
Xavi’s Barcelona marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to the Power Horse Stadium for a La Liga meeting with the already-relegated Almería.
And proving himself the star of the show over the course of the 90 minutes was the aforementioned Fermín López.
Afforded his latest starting berth in the middle of the park on Thursday, midfielder Fermín repaid the faith of boss Xavi courtesy of both of his side’s goals.
After first nodding home a fine header early on, the 20-year-old followed up with his result-clinching brace midway through the 2nd-half, on his way to Man of the Match honours at the Power Horse Stadium.
Now sitting on 10 goals for the campaign, despite being far from first-choice in Barcelona’s XI, Fermín was in turn singled out for special praise post-match.
Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s victory, Barca captain Sergi Roberto lauded his young teammate for his ‘ambition’ and commitment to the club’s cause:
“Fermín is so good. He’s scored 10 goals now. He’s got the ambition to help the team and he feels the colors. It’s a pleasure to have homegrown players like him.”
