The Dallas Cowboys will play the Washington Commanders in Week 18 for a football game that apparently, won’t matter at all when it comes to defining the future of head coach Mike McCarthy, who will enter the game without knowing if it’ll be his last one representing the Star.
That’s because Cowboys owner Jerry Jones suggested on his Friday radio appearance that the decision has been made on McCarthy’s fate and that Week 18 is unlikely to change it. For what it’s worth, Jones has been praising McCarthy’s work over the last month or so
“The hay is in the barn really, as far as our staff is concerned,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan when asked if the staff could do anything on the season finale to determine its future. “I don’t think there’s something that would happen out there Sunday impacting where we’re going to be as we go forward.”
Jones suggested they’ve evaluated the qualities of each of their coaches, circumstances and that they’ve done it on a “coach by position basis.”
In other words, it sounds like the decision has been made, even if we don’t know what it is just yet. Going off of Jones’ words, it’s unclear if they’ll run it back with McCarthy and staff or not. Week 18 won’t move the needle.
If the Cowboys want to do right by their coaches, they’ll make the decision as soon as possible to give them the best chance at landing another job elsewhere.
