Tiger Woods has to decide whether he could attempt his 2024 goal of playing one tournament a month or settle for something more realistic, especially at his age and with his injury history.
In recent years, Woods has been bitten by the injury bug hard, with the golf legend having undergone numerous surgeries to address issues with his lower legs and back. Seemingly every time he gets an injury, Woods proclaims he will return to golf and compete at the highest level, even if his body didn’t want to cooperate. He recently played through the pain at the PNC Championship alongside son, Charlie.
Before the 2024 season, Woods proposed a lofty goal for himself: Play in one tournament a month. In December 2023, the 48-year-old told the Golf Channel of his ambitious plan to get back in playing shape in an attempt to recapture the glory he once had as the greatest golfer.
Woods only played in five tournaments in 2024, missing the cut at Troon in July, his last taste of action. From then, the 48-year-old had been rehabilitating from various injuries that had hampered him throughout the year, including getting another procedure done on his back.
“The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful this will alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season,” Woods wrote in September. “I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”
To end the year, the golf legend and Charlie came in second behind Bernhard and Jason Langer. The elder Woods looked impressive in Orlando but it is clear he has to be more realistic in his goal on how much he wants to play in 2025.
