Here, we look at the female players who have reached the most Grand Slam singles finals in the Open Era.
Evonne Goolagong featured in 18 major singles finals, having lost to Margaret Court at the 1971 Australian Open in her first and prevailed over Chris Evert at the 1980 Wimbledon Championships in her last one.
The Australian reached seven title matches at the Australian Open, five at Wimbledon, four at the US Open and two at the French Open.
4. Steffi Graf – 31
Steffi Graf contested 31 Grand Slam championship matches. She defeated Martina Navratilova in her first final at the 1987 French Open and lost her last-ever one to Lindsay Davenport at Wimbledon in 1999.
The German played nine finals at both the French Open and Wimbledon, eight at the US Open and five at the Australian Open.

Martina Navratilova fell to Goolagong in her maiden Grand Slam singles final at the 1975 Australian Open, while she lost her 32nd and last major title match to Conchita Martinez at the 1994 Wimbledon Championships.
The Czech-American competed in 12 finals at Wimbledon, eight at the US Open, and six at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
2. Serena Williams – 33
Serena Williams reached 33 major singles championship matches, beating Martina Hingis in her first at the 1999 US Open and losing to Bianca Andreescu in her last at the 2019 edition of the same tournament.
The American featured in 11 finals at Wimbledon, 10 at the US Open, eight at the Australian Open and four at the French Open.

Chris Evert has played in more Grand Slam singles finals than any other woman in tennis history with a remarkable total of 34 — from which she claimed 18 titles.
The American was beaten by Court in her maiden major title match at the 1973 French Open and lost her last-ever one to Graf at the 1988 Australian Open.
Evert reached 10 finals at Wimbledon, nine at both the French Open and the US Open, and six at the Australian Open.
