The Tennessee Vols’ 2024 season didn’t end the way the team wanted, but it was still a tremendous year for UT football.
Tennessee won 10 games for the second time in three seasons, they reached the College Football Playoff, and they beat Alabama and Florida.
And they accomplished all of that with a redshirt freshman starting quarterback in Nico Iamaleava.
Not too bad.
The 2024 season featured plenty of great moments for the Vols. But there were three great moments that stood out above the rest for Tennessee.
1. Jermod McCoy’s interception against Ryan Williams in Tennessee’s win against Alabama
Alabama true freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams quickly proved to be one of the most talented players in the nation in 2024, but he was denied in the end zone against the Vols in the Crimson Tide’s loss to Tennessee.
In the first quarter, with Alabama threatening to score, McCoy picked off Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe’s pass to Williams in the end zone.
2. Nico Iamaleava’s game-winning TD pass to Chris Brazzell in win against Alabama
McCoy’s interception against Alabama was important, but it wasn’t even the biggest play of the game for the Vols. That moment came in the fourth quarter when Iamaleava threw one of his best passes of the year to wide receiver Chris Brazzell for what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown.
3. Dylan Sampson’s record breaking TD against Kentucky
I initially thought Iamaleava’s pass to Brazzell was easily the play of the year for the Vols.
But as numerous fans on social media have pointed out, the play of the year has to be running back Dylan Sampson’s record breaking touchdown run against Kentucky.
