The Baltimore Orioles are looking to finally live up to the expectations fans and members of the media have placed on them the past two seasons. A young team capable of making a big run in the playoffs. They made a splash last offseason and could very well end up losing that same piece. With that in mind, the Orioles should hit the market in search of an ace. Luis Castillo is the perfect guy.
After trading for him last offseason, Burnes killed it for the Orioles. However, he is currently one of the top free agents on the board and has still not signed. While the Orioles would love to bring him back, he’s going to get a lot of looks. There is a possibility for them to re-sign Burnes and still trade for Castillo; however, they would really need to make this move if they lost him in free agency.
This is a very young Orioles squad that has playoff promise but they need pitching to get them there. Castillo could be the perfect Burnes replacement if he walks but could also be a great number two option behind Burnes if they did ink a deal to keep him in Baltimore. The Orioles have always had a great farm system so they could afford to dump some prospects to land Castillo if needed.
