the Edmonton Oilers will have representation on Team Canada in the form of Beau Akey. Team USA will also have an Oilers prospect on the final roster.
Earlier today, Paul Fischer was named as part of Team USA. The 6-foot-1 defender has been playing for the University of Notre Dame this season and has nine points in 18 games.
During the pre-tournament camp, Fischer was getting reps on the penalty kill, offering a taste of the skills he can (perhaps) one day bring to the Oilers.
Team USA will be coached by David Carle, who had this to say about what the defender can bring to the team.
“Fish is gonna have to be a guy that’s hard to play against,” Carle told The Hockey News. “Take away time and space, and be efficient on his puck touches.
