The debate over whether Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have reached or surpassed the legendary heights of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic has been reignited, but prominent ATP stars remain unconvinced.
Former world No. 1 Mats Wilander recently praised the young duo, asserting their matches rival the intensity and skill of the “Big 3.” Wilander highlighted their explosive rallies and ability to produce thrilling tennis consistently, calling their peak level unmatched. Current world No. 4 Taylor Fritz echoed these sentiments, admiring the pair’s power and pace in rallies compared to the iconic trio.
However, former world No. 6 Gael Monfils offered a cautious perspective. Speaking at the UTS Grand Final, Monfils emphasized that while Sinner and Alcaraz had phenomenal years, comparing them to the “Big 3” is premature. “They are young; let’s revisit this comparison in five or ten years,” he suggested, noting the extensive careers and records of Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.
Jeremy Chardy, a former French Davis Cup winner, also dismissed the notion, urging fans not to rush judgments. He acknowledged the remarkable promise of the young stars but insisted their accomplishments are yet to rival those of the established legends.
While Sinner and Alcaraz may one day define a new golden era, the consensus among seasoned players is clear: they still have much to prove.
